Massachusetts correction officers hospitalized after fire in prison cell area
Two Bay State correction officers were hospitalized after a fire broke out in a cell area at MCI-Norfolk over the weekend.
The correction officers were taken to area hospitals for smoke inhalation Sunday afternoon, according to the Massachusetts Department of Correction. No incarcerated individuals requested treatment for smoke inhalation.
The officers returned to work later that night.
“State Police fire investigators are working with Norfolk FD and DOC to determine the origin and cause of the fire,” a Department of Fire Services spokesperson said in a statement.
“Based on their examination of the scene, they do not believe it was intentionally set,” the spokesperson added.
