Man fatally shot on Green Line train in St. Paul identified

A man who was killed after a shooting on a Green Line train Friday in St. Paul was a 33-year-old, Metro Transit police said Monday.

Sharif Darryl Walker-El Jr. was shot on the light-rail train as it approached the Hamline Avenue station about 8:30 p.m. Friday. He died at the hospital.

No one was under arrest as of Monday.

Walker-El’s family lost him “due to senseless gun violence,” a sister of his wrote on GoFundMe. “My mom has endured a pain no mother should have to bear once again and that is losing a child, especially to gun violence.” She asked people to pray for her family as they lay her younger brother, who was known as “Reef,” to rest.

Metro Transit police continue to investigate, and are asking anyone with information to call their tip line at 612-349-7222.
