Red Sox lineups: Garrett Cooper to make debut at 1B, Vaughn Grissom out (illness)

Newly acquired first baseman Garrett Cooper will make his Red Sox debut on Tuesday night against the San Francisco Giants, but another highly anticipated newcomer’s arrival will have to wait at least another day.

Vaughn Grissom, who was expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list (left hamstring strain), is under the weather and will not play Tuesday. His 20-day rehab assignment is due to expire on Wednesday, so it’s not clear whether he’ll need to be activated at that time or if his illness could knock him out more than one day.

Masataka Yoshida, who left Sunday’s game with a left hand injury after getting jammed on a pitch, also saw a specialist and is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Wednesday. Red Sox manager Alex Cora said he is officially active Tuesday but isn’t expected to play.

Cooper Criswell (1-1, 2.38 ERA) will take the mound for the Red Sox against Giants’ ace Logan Webb (3-1, 2.33). Mike Yastrzemski, the grandson of Red Sox legend Carl Yastrzemski, is starting at right field and batting eighth for the Giants, and Nick Ahmed, a Springfield native, is starting at shortstop and batting ninth.

With Game 5 of the Bruins vs. Maple Leafs playoff series being broadcast on NESN’s main channel, Tuesday’s Red Sox game is being carried on NESN+.
