Welcome to the North American premiere of the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X which has been conceived, engineered, and designed to make mobility more human. The German innovation company continues expanding the Vision Vehicle lineup with a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) that is fully digital, human-centric, and electrified.

BMW held the prestigious unveil on the rooftop of the Petersen Automotive Museum in LA in front of an immersive automotive media and influencer crowd. On deck to speak upon the latest technology and creation of the Neue Klasse X was Julia De Bono, CEO of Designworks, A BMW Group Company. She was very passionate about the sustainable and digitized project and how the diversity of the company’s design approach becomes more advanced when paired with a blend of rich, unique experiences, flavors, and people. Thus, three core values of Neue Klasse X have been pinpointed to create the SAV’s identity: electric, digital, and circular.

Based in Santa Monica, CA, Designworks is a creative hub within the BMW ecosystem that spearheads distinct talents in digital, automotive, industrial, and experiential design. Consisting of three global branches — LA, Munich, and Shanghai — company motivation and inspiration is fueled by openness to bold ideas, disruption, and innovation. Specifically for the California branch, BMW is set within the epicenter of entertainment, mobility, and tech culture.

To be clear, Neue Klasse and Neue Klasse X, a digital and mobility philosophy, will become the blueprint for all next-generation BMW models. This transformation marks the largest pool of resources BMW has ever invested in a technology movement. The BMW M brand will also integrate with Neue Klasse, so expect increased levels of ultimate driving.

“The BMW Vision Neue Klasse X provides a look ahead to the X models of the Neue Klasse. The same principles apply to our Sport Activity Vehicles: electric, digital, and circular,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, head of BMW Group Design. “The X models will always remain strong in character: monolithic, clean, and with a very distinctive vertical interpretation of the BMW light signature.”

The latest BMW Vision is sculpted with aggressive wheel arches, large windows, a digital kidney grille, strong design creases, reflective surfaces, and short overhangs with an emphasis on the aerodynamic wheels since the driving experience will remain BMW’s focus. You can thank the company’s 6th-generation BMW eDrive technology since it instills extra efficiency and driving gratification from new electric motors and breakthrough cylindrical lithium-ion battery cells. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse X is finished with Coral Silver paint.

An ultimate driving machine requires the input of an ultimate driver. So, BMW wants to influence humans into better controllers behind the wheel by applying advanced technology from the 6th-gen BMW eDrive. In addition to improved e-drive units, BMW has transitioned to an 800-volt system to enhance charging speeds by up to 30 percent. The system will also increase driving range by 30 percent, which is uber impressive. Additionally, specialty tires and upgraded brakes explicitly engineered for EV performance help increase overall vehicle efficiency by up to 25 percent.

Inside, the cabin is light, airy, and organic and features materials and textiles that are entirely plant-based, mineral-based, and petroleum-free. Some of the sounds and abstract colors of the vehicle are AI-generated. The Vision Neue Klasse X incorporates a panoramic glass roof, soft colors for comfort, slightly elevated seating, and a redesigned steering wheel with multifunction buttons. On the tech side, a Central Display with intuitive touch control, BMW Panoramic Vision that shows apps on the windshield, and advanced voice control from the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant act as the Neue Klasse X’s central nervous system.

The first fully electric Vision Neue Klasse X SAV will go into production at Plant Debrecen, Hungary in 2025. Since we are a mobile society, mobility has become the cornerstone of personal freedom and progress through innovation and sustainability. From CO2 reduction to recycled textiles and metals, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X is catapulting The Ultimate Driving Machine into the future.
