State boys hockey: Cretin-Derham Hall rallies from 3-0 hole to upset third-ranked Centennial

Cretin-Derham Hall went down 3-0 to third-seeded Centennial just 10 minutes into Thursday’s Class 2A state quarterfinal. By all accounts, the Raiders were toast.

Done, finished, thanks for coming out. Better luck next year.

A team that struggled to score against elite opposition all season was suddenly going to muster enough offense to erase that type of deficit against one of the top teams on the state’s grandest stage? Fat chance.

And then the Raiders did it.

For the second time in as many seasons, Cretin-Derham Hall delivered a Thursday afternoon stunner at state, this time netting the game’s final four goals to down Centennial 4-3 in double overtime and advance to Friday evening’s state semifinals, where it’ll square off with second-seeded Chanhassen.

Max Anderson put away the game winner on a 2 on 1 with 4:37 to play in the second extra session. It was his second goal of the day.
