After the Celtics’ victory over the Mavericks on Friday night, Jaylen Brown wanted to see them reach another level. Even as the Celtics keep winning, Brown wasn’t satisfied. He said this is the part of the year “where we start to take it up a notch.”

Two days later, Brown backed up his word. But he led the Celtics to a level maybe even he wasn’t expecting.

As the Celtics continue their destruction of the league, they made perhaps their loudest statement yet on Sunday afternoon. They obliterated the Warriors. They humiliated them. They made Steve Kerr throw in the towel at halftime. They rolled to another dominant victory, a 140-88 shellacking at TD Garden.

Brown set the tone with 29 points, including 19 in the first quarter. Jayson Tatum, on his 26th birthday, scored 27 points. The Celtics crushed the Warriors with an avalanche of 23 3-pointers and overpowering defense in their statistically best first half in franchise history, and coasted the rest of the way for their 11th consecutive victory.

The Celtics scored 82 points in the first half, their most in franchise history, as they led the Warriors by 44, their largest ever halftime advantage. At halftime, Kerr made the rare decision to pull starters Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green as he accepted defeat. Minutes into the second half, Joe Mazzulla also pulled his starters.

The Celtics led by as many as 56 and secured their third victory with a winning margin of at least 50 points this season.
