Boston has been a landing site for immigrants – and also a spot for those just passing through. In this Dec. 29, 1965 photo, passengers disembark from the Polish ship M.S. Batory, the first immigrant ship to dock in Boston in 20 years, as others wait for clearance on the deck. Some 450 immigrants from Iron Curtain countries and 200 tourists were aboard the vessel when it docked. Most of the immigrants were bound for Detroit and Chicago. (AP Photo/Bill Chaplis)
