Lowell Police investigating a double murder and suicide
A Lowell man shot his wife and child before turning the gun on himself this morning, authorities say.
The man, who authorities have not identified, called police just before 6:40 a.m. to report that he shot his wife and child. When police arrived at the Warren Street apartment shortly thereafter, they found a woman and a female child shot to death inside the home. They also found the man dead from “an apparently self inflicted gunshot wound.”
The murder is being investigated by the Middlesex District Attorney’s office, the Massachusetts State Police unit assigned to that office and the Lowell Police Department. The cause and manner of the deaths will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, authorities said.
This is a developing story.
