Celtics’ Joe Mazzulla provides injury update on Luke Kornet

Celtics center Luke Kornet will not play in Game 2 against the Heat on Wednesday, but he was able to participate in a limited capacity in the team’s morning shootaround.

Kornet, who’s dealing with a right calf strain, looked “pretty good,” according to Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla.

Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla updates Luke Kornet’s new calf injury

“He was able to do some non-contact stuff today,” Mazzulla said Wednesday prior to Game 2. “He’s definitely getting better. Not sure how he responded today.”

Mazzulla said he wasn’t sure of a timeline on Kornet’s return.

The Celtics beat the Heat 114-94 in commanding fashion on Sunday afternoon without Kornet, who suffered the injury last week in practice during drills.

When Kornet returns, he can provide a layer of depth behind Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford.
