Red Sox manager Alex Cora jokes he’ll run Boston Marathon if he’s thrown out Sunday
Monday is going to be a big day in Alex Cora’s household. His partner, Angelica Feliciano, is set to run the Boston Marathon, and so is her brother Jésus and bench coach Ramon Vazquez’s wife Griselda.
Once Monday’s game ends Cora plans to hustle down to the finish line with his kids to cheer them on, but prior to Sunday’s game he joked that he hopes his involvement doesn’t get any deeper than that.
“(I’m going down) after, unless I get suspended today,” Cora said. “If we get into a fight and I get a suspension tomorrow, I’m running the marathon.”
Kidding aside, Cora praised his partner and all the runners for the time and effort they’ve put in, saying it’s an incredible commitment and that it should hopefully be a great experience.
“It’s going to be fun, they take off at 11 so I’ve got plenty of time. They don’t know what they’re shooting for as far as time but Angelica wants to beat her brother by whatever. That’s her goal,” Cora said. “It’s something special. All joking aside, what they’re trying to accomplish tomorrow, I take my hat off, it’s going to be a fun day for everyone.”
Cora said he expects he’ll have five and a half from first pitch to finish the game and make it to Boylston Street, and in order to ensure he doesn’t wind up with more free time to spend running, he promised his club will be on its best behavior Sunday.
“We’re not fighting, well, you never know,” Cora said. “We’re not hitting anyone on purpose.”
