BMW and Rimac Technology Announce EV Battery Tech Partnership

BMW Group has unveiled a groundbreaking collaboration with Rimac Technology, marking a pivotal moment in the advancement of electric vehicle (EV) battery technology. The partnership signals BMW’s commitment to enhancing its future lineup with cutting-edge high-voltage battery solutions, set to debut in the latter half of this decade.

Rimac Technology, a division of Rimac Group, is poised to evolve into a prominent “high-volume Tier 1 supplier” for battery-electric vehicles, as affirmed by BMW. Mate Rimac, the visionary behind the Croatian EV enterprise, expressed profound gratitude for the trust bestowed by BMW, emphasizing the significance of the partnership on both professional and personal fronts.

Rimac’s journey traces back to 2008 when Mate Rimac embarked on his inaugural project, electrifying a 1984 E30-generation BMW 3-Series. This endeavor laid the foundation for Rimac’s ascension as a trailblazer in the electric vehicle realm. Notably, Rimac oversees not only his eponymous company but also assumes a leadership role at Bugatti, reflecting his remarkable career trajectory.

With a substantial portion of its Croatia campus dedicated to BMW battery production, Rimac finds itself at capacity and is already strategizing the establishment of a new manufacturing facility. Anticipated to be a monumental endeavor, the expansion project could potentially mark a historic milestone for the country’s industrial landscape.

Having pioneered groundbreaking concepts like the Concept One showcased at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, Rimac Automobili has cemented its position as an industry innovator. The subsequent launch of the Nevera in 2022, alongside the formation of Bugatti-Rimac birthing a forthcoming hybrid V-16-powered Chiron successor, underscores Rimac’s relentless pursuit of automotive excellence.

BMW’s acknowledgment of Rimac’s proficiency in battery pack manufacturing, e-axle development, and software integration underscores the synergistic potential of the partnership. While specific details remain undisclosed, the collaborative efforts are poised to redefine the future of electric mobility. Further insights into this transformative alliance are expected to emerge in due course, promising exciting prospects for the automotive landscape.
