Massachusetts road rage: Two men arrested after truck driver was reportedly hit with a hammer
Two men were arrested for an alleged road rage incident along I-495 on Monday, according to Mass State Police who reported that a truck driver was hit with a hammer.
The tractor trailer driver suffered serious injuries following the alleged assault, police reported.
Massachusetts State Police troopers responded just before 2 p.m. to the breakdown lane of I-495 south in Bolton for a report of an altercation involving a weapon. The troopers learned that the fight had stemmed from an alleged road rage incident.
The truck driver had reportedly been assaulted by two men who were in a Volkswagen GTI hatchback, police said. The truck driver was struck with a hammer during the assault, police said.
The tractor trailer driver was then transported to Leominster Hospital, where he remained hospitalized Monday evening.
The two suspects reportedly fled the scene before police arrived. Then soon after, the two men were seen in Marlboro, where police officers pulled them over. State Police troopers responded and arrested the two men, who were not immediately named by police.
A third occupant of the vehicle, a female, was not charged.
One of the male suspects was treated at Marlborough Hospital for injuries sustained in the altercation.
The charges against the two men were being finalized at the Leominster Barracks Monday evening.
