Man, 35, killed in highway shooting in Chicopee
A 35-year-old man is dead following a highway shooting in Chicopee Tuesday night.
According to the Massachusetts State Police, the man was in an SUV traveling southbound on Route 391 around the 2.6-mile marker when another vehicle zoomed up alongside the SUV and started shooting.
The man and the two other occupants of the vehicle, one of whom was also injured in the shooting, tried to stop and flag down help, the MSP wrote in a statement, but time was not on their side.
One of the occupants then drove the SUV to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield where the injured were admitted. The 35-year-old was rushed to surgery, the MSP said, but did not survive and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
MSP technicians recovered evidence from the roadway, according to the agency. The investigation is led by the State Police Detective Unit for Hampden County.
The MSP said they had no further information on Wednesday.
