Beginning Thursday World Without Genocide will be hosting an event series called “Write to Political Prisoners in Russia” in collaboration with The Museum of Russian Art and Russians Against War.

Each part of the event series will be held in a different location, starting with the Germanic-American Institute from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. The second will take place 10 to 11:30 a.m. on April 14 at Mount Zion Temple in St. Paul from 10 to 11:30 a.m. There also will be events from 1 to 3 p.m. on April 20 at the St. Cloud Public Library and 1 to 3 p.m. on May 18 at the Washburn Public Library.

World Without Genocide is an organization dedicated to prevent genocide through actively combating racism and prejudice through classes, workshops, exhibits, conferences and advocacy. They are formally associated with the UN Department of Global Communications since 2022, and are based out of Mitchell Hamline School of Law.

In this event, they invite the public to write letters to the more than 20,000 political nonconformists imprisoned in Russia for protesting the war in Ukraine. Registration is required, materials are provided with no fee, and no Russian language skills are necessary.

Participants’ letters will be sent anonymously and electronically to Russia. Replies from prisoners will be translated and returned to the original writers.
