Nationals top prospect Daylen Lile removed from game on stretcher after falling into Red Sox bullpen
Daylen Lile, one of the Washington Nationals’ top prospects, was injured in Saturday’s game against the Red Sox.
The 21-year-old outfielder flipped headfirst into the home bullpen at JetBlue Park, trying rob infielder Tyler Miller of a home run.
Sox pitchers immediately jumped up from the bench and began waving frantically for medical attention for Lile, who remained on the ground. Trainers and medics rushed to the bullpen as Nationals players congregated in the outfield and began kneeling, visibly shaken. A medic could be seen carefully turning Lile from his side onto his back before getting him onto the stretcher. His head and neck were immobilized, but it was reassuring to see him raise one of his arms as the stretcher was wheeled onto the warning track and out of the ballpark.
Lile was the Nationals’ second round pick in the ’21 draft. Coming off Tommy John surgery in 2022, he’s listed as the Nationals’ No. 6 prospect on MLB Pipeline, No. 11 at Baseball America, and No. 5 by The Athletic.
