Man killed by MBTA Commuter Rail train in Hyde Park
An MBTA Commuter Rail train struck and killed a man who was purportedly attempting to cross over train tracks at Hyde Park Station.
“On behalf of the (Transit Police Department) and the entire MBTA organization we offer our most sincere condolences to the decedent’s family, loved ones and friends,” Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan wrote in a preliminary statement.
The incident occurred at about 3:10 p.m. Tuesday.
The man, who was carrying a suitcase, “was attempting to cross from one track to another,” Sullivan wrote, and was “trespassing on the right of way” when he allegedly tried to go over a fence separating the tracks when he was struck by an outbound train on the Providence/Stoughton line.
The man was pronounced dead, according to the statement.
Transit Police detectives are investigating but, Sullivan said, “foul play is NOT suspected.”
