Girl, 14, stabbed at Dorchester’s Jermiah Burke High School, another student arrested
A teen girl was stabbed another female student at Dorchester’s Burke High School this morning, prompting the entire school to enter lockdown, or “Safe Mode,” for roughly 35 minutes, according to a letter from the head of school.
A Boston Public Schools spokesman told the Herald that a 15-year-old girl stabbed a 14-year-old girl in an altercation within Jeremiah E. Burke High School at 10:53 a.m. Tuesday. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by EMS to an area hospital.
A Boston Police spokesman said that the alleged assailant was arrested.
Head of School Amilcar Silva said in a letter to staff and parents that Boston Public School Safety Services, Boston Police and Boston EMS responded to the incident. The school is located at 60 Washington St. in Dorchester.
“We know incidents like this can cause many to feel anxious, but I want to reassure all members of the Burke High School Community this was an isolated incident between two students, and that we will take every step necessary to ensure that our students feel safe and welcomed,” Silva wrote in the letter. “We will continue to fulfill our commitment to safety every day in every school.”
This is a developing story.
