Wild claim defenseman Declan Chisholm from Winnipeg

Seeking blue line depth, in the NHL and AHL, the Wild have claimed Declan Chisholm off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets and were awarded the defenseman on Monday.

Chisholm, 24, is a plus-2 with an assist in four total NHL games, two this season and two last season with Winnipeg. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound native of Bowmanville, Ontario, missed 24 games this season with a lower body injury. He has 16 goals and 91 points in 146 career AHL games with Manitoba.

The Wild learned this month they will be without veteran blue liner Jared Spurgeon for the rest of the season. The team captain is scheduled for hip surgery on Feb. 6, and back surgery approximately four weeks later. The Wild acquired veteran defenseman Will Butcher from Pittsburgh in a swap of minor leaguers last week.

Minnesota is off for the All-Star Game break this week and doesn’t play until Feb. 7 at Chicago.
