88,003 new cars found a Slovak home in 2023, a 11.6% year-on-year improvement. Skoda (+25.8%) strengthens its hold on the market with its share lifting from 17.6% to 19.8%. Toyota (+24.2%) also excels and gains two spots on last year to #2 with 11.7% share vs. 10.5% a year ago. Kia (+6%) stays in third place whereas Hyundai (-3.7%) and Volkswagen (-8.6%) both struggle. Dacia (+7.2%) and Peugeot (+1.3%) are both up but trail the market. Suzuki (+49.1%), Mercedes (+24.4%) and BMW (+21.4%) close out the Top 10 in stellar fashion.

The models ranking is back to “normal” this year, after the shock win of the Hyundai i30 in 2022. It is a Skoda again atop the charts, with the Octavia (+74.3%) surging up four spots to #1. This is the first time since 2017 that the Octavia is the best-seller in Slovakia. Note the station wagon variant accounts for 63% of Octavia sales this year. The Kia Ceed (+10.9%) is up two spots to #2 while last year’s leader the Hyundai i30 (-23.8%) freefalls to #3. The Kia Sportage (-2.4%) is down one to #4 while the Skoda Fabia (-20.4%) is down three to #5. There are three more Skodas in the Top 9 and they all beat the market: the Kamiq (+28.3%) at #6, the Scala (+49%) at #7 and the Karoq (+32.4%) at #9.
