Teacher at Saugus public school arrested for drug possession on campus

A teacher at Saugus Middle/High School was arrested for alleged possession of drugs on school property.

Someone at the school called Saugus Police at around 10:40 a.m. Thursday to report a “suspicious substance” in a faculty restroom at the school, according to a statement from the police.

Police investigated and arrested Roxanne Plaskon, a 52-year-old teacher at the school, with possession of a Class A substance. The school staff directory lists Plaskon — which is the correct spelling of her name — as a science teacher.

“The allegations concerning this employee are deeply concerning to the Saugus Public Schools and the Town of Saugus,” Michael Hashem, the superintendent of Saugus Public Schools, wrote in a statement released to the school community. “The school department has worked cooperatively with the Saugus Police Department and will continue to do so.”

He added that both city administrators and the police “addressed the situation, following the appropriate procedures and laws, to make sure that at no time was the safety of students or staff in jeopardy.”

He said he cannot comment further on this personnel matter. The police have yet to release arraignment details.

Herald reporter Gayla Cawley contributed to this report. This is a developing story.
