WEEI Red Sox announcer Will Flemming is reportedly a finalist for a TV position
WEEI Red Sox radio announcer Will Flemming could be calling games for a different Sox squad this season.
Flemming, who has been a play-by-play announcer on WEEI since 2019, is a finalist for the Chicago White Sox TV job, according to a report.
He’s one of three final candidates, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting. The other contenders for the TV role are ESPN 1000’s Connor McKnight and ESPN’s John Schriffen.
Flemming is the most experienced candidate of the three.
This report comes after Audacy Boston’s WEEI recently put up a job posting for a “Red Sox Play by Play/Analyst Announcer” for the 2024 Sox season. Once this position started circulating on social media, Sox fans immediately wondered what this meant for Flemming. Audacy at the time said the station was “simply building a bench.”
Meanwhile, Audacy recently filed for bankruptcy, as the company’s leader blamed a “perfect storm” of financial challenges sparking a drop of several billion dollars in radio ad spending. Audacy filed for prepackaged Chapter 11 proceedings in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas.
When the Herald reached out to Audacy about Flemming reportedly being a finalist for the White Sox TV role, an Audacy spokesperson said in a statement on Monday, “We have no comment.”

Flemming is still an Audacy employee, and he has been allowed to interview for this TV position while he continues to work for Audacy.
He did not immediately respond to comment on Monday. Flemming is also a play-by-play broadcaster for ESPN.
“Will Flemming is excellent,” posted Brandon Wile after the White Sox TV report came out. “Would be a big loss for WEEI.”
