Hudson man killed in apparent DWI collision in western Wisconsin
A Hudson man was killed Wednesday night in a head-on crash apparently involving drunken driving in St. Croix County, western Wisconsin officials say.
St. Croix County sheriff’s deputies responded shortly before 9:30 p.m. to a collision in the 1600 block of County Road TT near Hammond, where they found a Volkswagen Passat with serious front-end damage in the roadway and a Toyota 4Runner in the ditch, according to a news release issued by the sheriff’s office.
All three occupants of the Passat, who were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, were taken by ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, the news release said. Isaiah K. Barnes, 21, a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at Regions.
The driver, a 21-year-old man from Hammond, and a second passenger, a 34-year-old man from Bruce, were also injured.
The occupants of the 4Runner, a 60-year-old man from New Richmond and a 54-year-old man from Hammond, were treated at the scene and released. Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, the news release said.
The initial investigation into the crash indicated that the 4Runner was traveling east on County Road TT when the crash occurred, while the Passat was traveling west. Alcohol is believed to have played a role in the collision, the news release said.
The crash remains under investigation.
