Curling Day in Minnesota will take place Saturday with many clubs across the Twin Cities offering open houses, demonstrations and the chance to watch a game.

The Minnesota Curling Association and member clubs are presenting the free, family events open to all with accomodations available for those with limited mobility.

Among the events is an open house from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the St. Paul Curling Club located at 470 Selby Ave. in St. Paul. Experienced curlers will be on hand to introduce the sport to those interested and allow them to try it out.

Elsewhere in the metro on Saturday there will be:

• An open house from noon to 2 p.m. at the Dakota Curling Club, at 20775 Holt Ave., in Lakeville.

• Outdoor curling at 2 p.m. with the Richfield Curling Club will take place at Donaldson Park, at 7434 Humboldt Ave. S. in Richfield.

• Outdoor curling from noon to 10 p.m. at the Winter Skolstice event at Viking Lanes at 2685 Viking Circle in Eagan.

• North of the metro area, the Cambridge Curling Club, at 3101 Highway 95 N.E., in Cambridge, also will be hosting an open house.

“Winters are long, cold, and dark here in Minnesota,” said a press release from the Minnesota Curling Association. “We aim to help liven that up and celebrate this 500+ year old game and the opportunities it provides for activity and its time-honored tradition of socializing with your opponents, all in the spirit of curling.”
