Massachusetts meteorologists watching coastal snow storm after a few inches of snow; below zero wind chills on the way
After a few inches of snow fell across the region, forecasters will be turning their attention to another possible coastal storm with bitter wind chills on the way.
There will be a chance for snow on Friday into the night, according to the National Weather Service.
It’s not looking like a major storm, but forecasters can’t completely rule that out as of now.
“It looks like the storm system is tracking well to the south, which would spare us a significant snowfall,” Kevin Cadima, meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Boston office, told the Herald on Tuesday.
“We could have some lighter snowfall accumulation,” he added.
The latest forecast models continue to show the coastal storm passing far enough offshore to spare southern New England significant snow totals.
“There are some GEPS ensemble members that do show a more significant impact with 20-40 percent probs of 6 inches or more near the south coast, but overwhelming majority of GEFS and EPS members are indicating a minor impact,” the National Weather Service’s forecast discussion reads.
“We are still 72 hrs from the event in the model world so can’t completely rule out a more significant impact, but this is unlikely at this time,” NWS adds. “Some accum is still likely, especially SE New Eng but probably not more than an advisory snowfall event.”
