Ice brigade: Skaters hit the ice to raise Boston Marathon money
People of all abilities took to the DCR Devine Memorial Rink through Saturday evening, skating to raise funds for members of the Play Brigade Boston Marathon team.
The fundraiser invited people who are deaf, blind, in wheelchairs and able-bodied to come together on the ice rink in Dorchester to support runners participating in the Play Brigade Boston Marathon team at this year’s race. Entrants paid $10 to skate and were provided free rentals.
The event provided ASL interpreters and guide skaters for blind skaters. The organizers also offered a seated option on the rink with ice sleds for skaters without use of their legs and crates for anyone needing help with balance.
The Play Brigade has worked to educate and advocate for disability equity and inclusion in healthcare, education, and recreation since 2014, according to their mission statement.
