Bruins notes: Jeremy Swayman an All-Star, Linus Ullmark takes the ice
The Bruins received a couple of good news nuggets on the goalie front on Saturday.
First off, Linus Ullmark was back on the ice for a little bit of work in St. Louis before the team’s morning skate. Secondly, Jeremy Swayman is an All-Star.
Though the B’s termed Ullmark as day-to-day after he suffered a lower body injury on Tuesday in Arizona, it was still a bit surprising to see him on the ice this quickly. When he left the game in Tempe — extremely gingerly and with the help of teammates on either side of him — it didn’t look like this was going to be a short-term injury.
“Really good sign. He’s progressing faster than we anticipated. It’s his first day on the ice, so he’s starting the process of being a player for us again,” coach Jim Montgomery told reporters in St. Louis.
How soon he gets back in the lineup remains to be seen. There’s no reason to rush him back and it could be worthwhile to see both Swayman get a strong of games and call-up Brandon Bussi possibly get a game before going back to Providence. We’ll see.
Meanwhile, Swayman was among the first five NHL players who were named to the All-Star game by way of fan vote. Others added were Alexander Georgiev (Colorado), Sergei Bobrovsky (Florida), Cale Makar (Colorado) and Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton).
Swayman, who’ll appear in his first All-Star game, had posted a 11-3-7 record with a 2.47 goals against average and a .920 save percentage going into Saturday night’s game against the Blues….
Pavel Zacha (illness) did not participate in the morning skate but Montgomery said he’ll be a game-time decision.
