Winter to arrive in the Twin Cities: Up to 6 inches of snow, frigid temps coming Friday

Winter — is it finally incoming?

Frigid temperatures and up to six inches of snow are expected on Friday in the Twin Cities to be followed by cold, windy conditions into the weekend and early next week, according to the Twin Cities office of the National Weather Service.

Patchy snow is expected to fall before noon Friday with a high near 22 degrees and wind gusts up to 20 mph. Two to four inches of snow is expected to fall during the day on Friday, with another one to 2 inches Friday night.

Saturday may bring more snow with temperatures reaching as low as 9 below zero on Saturday evening. Wind gusts may be as high as 30 mph.

Sunday’s high will be near 2 below zero with blustery, northwest winds around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.  A low of 11 below is forecast for Sunday night.

Monday — Martin Luther King Jr. Day — will see party sunny skies and a high near 1 below zero. Wind will be out of the northwest at around 15 mph.
