Patriots special teamer Brenden Schooler was named to the NFL Players Association’s second annual All-Pro first team Wednesday.

Schooler blocked a field goal and tied for the league lead with 13 special teams tackles this season. He also tied for the team lead in special teams snaps taken (407) with veteran Chris Board. Schooler entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Texas in 2022 and made the Patriots’ active roster each of the last two years coming out of training camp.

Only active NFL players were eligible to vote for the NFLPA’s All-Pro teams, and each player could only vote once. Players could not vote for themselves or for their teammates. For special teamers, player leaders from each locker room nominated their two top players for the ballot. Schooler and Detroit’s Jalen Reeves-Maybin were selected as All-Pro first-team special-teamers.

In October, longtime Patriots captain Matthew Slater explained how Schooler quickly established himself as one of the NFL’s best special teams players.

“I think what really sets him apart is his mental makeup, his understanding of the game, his football IQ, his toughness, and just his overall commitment to this football team. You can’t ask for a better teammate. You can’t ask for a player with better makeup,” said the 38-year-old Slater.

“I say it all the time: I’m glad I stuck around long enough to play with him, and excited about what he’s going to do in the future.”
