Women’s basketball: Gophers top Michigan with fourth-quarter surge

Mallory Heyer had 21 points and Grace Grocholski added 19 as the Minnesota Gophers rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the Michigan Wolverines 82-66 in a Big Ten Conference women’s basketball game in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Gophers (12-3, 2-2 Big Ten) trailed by a point, 54-53 after three quarters but then outscored the Wolverines 29-12 in the final period.

Mara Braun had 17 points for the Gophers, and Amaya Battle contributed 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

It was Minnesota’s first victory at Ann Arbor since 2014.

Lauren Hansen and Laila Phella had 16 points each to lead Michigan (11-5, 2-2)
