Breslow makes first front office change of Red Sox tenure with Toboni promotion
The Red Sox still don’t have a general manager, but they do have a new assistant general manager.
The Herald can confirm that Paul Toboni has been promoted to senior vice president and assistant GM. He joins Eddie Romero, Raquel Ferreira and Michael Groopman, who already hold the assistant GM title.
Toboni is considered a rising star in the organization, which he joined in 2015 as an area scout. After a year, the Red Sox promoted him to assistant director of amateur scouting. Most recently, he served as the club’s vice president of amateur scouting and player development, and oversaw their drafting from 2020-22. He was one of the internal candidates to replace Chaim Bloom before they hired Craig Breslow.
Breslow inherited a front office full of longtime Red Sox executives, but has yet to hire a No. 2. Brian O’Halloran, who’s been with the organization for over two decades, served as GM from October 2019 until earlier this offseason, when he transitioned into the role of executive vice president of baseball operations.
