A Peabody man was arraigned for manslaughter Monday after allegedly fatally shoving his sister down the front steps on New Year’s evening, the Essex County DA and Peabody Police announced.

Just after 5 p.m. on Jan. 1, officials said, Peabody Police received a medical emergency call to a single-family home at 3 Esquire Drive in Peabody.

At the scene, cops found a woman, later identified as Mimoza Sawtelle, 54, in front of the home with “serious head trauma.”

Sawtelle was taken for medical treatment and died from her injuries on Jan. 5, the release said.

Police stated her brother Alban Dobra, 39, had “attempted to eject” Sawtelle and her sister from the house on Jan. 1.

During the attempt, police said, Dobra grabbed Sawtelle and pushed her off the front steps of the house. Her head hit the paved walkway below.

The defendant was arrested the night of the altercation and arraigned on Jan. 2 on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, according to the DA. He was ordered held without bail.

Dobra’s charges were upgraded after Sawtelle’s death, leading him to be arraigned Monday on a manslaughter charge.

Dobra will return to court on Jan. 12 for a detention hearing.
