Belgium June/H1 2026: Fleet BEVs at 59% share, Mercedes CLA and BMW iX3 stun
The BMW iX3 is an instant blockbuster in Belgium.
The Belgian new car market is up by a solid 9.4% year-on-year in June to 45,449 units, however the H1 2026 volume remains in negative at -1.7% to 230,681. For reference, the H1 2025 tally was off -10.9% on the year prior so we remain at historically low levels. Private sales continue to increase their footprint to 45.3% share vs. 41.7% in 2025, 38.4% in 2024 and 31.1% in 2023 (amended figures). As a result fleet sales drop to 54.7% of the market. Petrol is at 42.3% share vs. 40.6% last year, BEVs improve to 36.1% vs. 34.7% in 2025 and 28.5% in 2024, HEVs are at 12.3%, PHEVs at 5.6% and diesel at 2.8%. Strikingly, BEVs represent 59% of fleets’ volume over H1 vs. just 10.2% of private sales.
In the June brands ranking, BMW (+13.1%) strengthens its lead with a dominant 9.9% share vs. 10.7% year-to-date, far above a freefalling Volkswagen (-21.4%) at 6.9% vs. 8.4% so far in 2026. Peugeot (+13.9%) repeats at #3 followed by an equally sturdy Renault (+18.5%). Dacia (-26.4%) and Audi (-27.7%) hit a wall but MG (+515.8%) sees its sales progress 6-fold year-on-year to reach #8 with 2,106 sales and 4.6% share. This is a new volume record (previous best 1,976 in June 2024) and a share best (previous best 4.5% in December 2025) but not a ranking record (#7 in December 2025). Leapmotor (+427.3%), BYD (+121.8%) and Mazda (+105.9%) stand out below.
Model-wise, the BMW X1 (-9.8%) remains ultra dominant at 3.5% share, with 54% of its volume going to the iX1 BEV variant. The Dacia Sandero (-12.9%) is #2 again and despite skidding YoY. The Mini Cooper (+12.3%) climbs to #3 ahead of the Tesla Model Y rallying back up 34.6%. The Citroen C3 (-11.5%) has ended its new generation honeymoon and falls to #5. Notice also the Renault Clio up 20.8% to #6. Among new entrants inside the Top 20 vs. last year, the Mercedes CLA storms into 8th place and the BMW iX3 lands directly at an outstanding #13.
The BMW X1 and Mini Cooper top Flanders sales, the Dacia Sandero and Renault Clio are the best-selling vehicles in Wallonia and the Citroen C3 and Mercedes CLA dominate Brussels. Private buyers prefer the Dacia Sanderto, VW T-Roc and BMW X1 while the Top 10 most popular models with fleets are all BEVs, led by the BMW iX1, Telsa Model Y and Audi Q6 e-tron with the BMW iX3 landing at #4.
