Toyota Recalls Nearly 106,000 Land Cruiser SUVs Over Fuel Leak and Potential Fire Risk

Toyota’s legendary Land Cruiser has built its reputation on durability and reliability, but even one of the toughest SUVs on the road isn’t immune to an occasional manufacturing problem. The Japanese automaker has issued a safety recall affecting 105,794 Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs from the 2024 through 2027 model years due to a potential fuel leak that could increase the risk of a fire. According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem involves a fuel-line connection near the gasoline tank that could unexpectedly come apart. As first highlighted in recent reporting from Car and Driver, the issue affects the latest generation of the Land Cruiser, which uses Toyota’s turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid powertrain.

The problem centers around the connection between a plastic fuel tube attached to the gas tank and a metal fuel line responsible for delivering gasoline to the engine. Under certain conditions, the retaining clip securing the connection could become dislodged, allowing the two sections to separate and fuel to escape. If that happens, gasoline could continue leaking until the combustion engine shuts down. More concerning is the possibility of leaking fuel encountering an ignition source, which could result in a vehicle fire. Toyota has not yet determined the underlying cause of the connection issue, but the potential safety consequences are serious enough to warrant a recall.

Fortunately, Toyota has already outlined a relatively straightforward repair procedure. Authorized dealerships will inspect the affected fuel-line connection and install an additional retaining clamp designed to prevent the components from separating. If technicians discover that the existing plastic fuel tube requires replacement, they will install a new tube along with the supplemental clamp. All inspections, replacement parts, and repairs will be performed free of charge. Toyota says its dealerships have been notified of the recall, and affected owners can expect official notification letters by mid-December 2026.

The recall covers certain Land Cruisers produced for the 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027 model years, although owners should verify whether their specific vehicle is included rather than assuming every SUV is affected. Toyota has assigned recall numbers 26TB23 and 26TA23, while the NHTSA campaign number is 26V673. Owners can check their vehicle identification number through Toyota’s official recall website or the NHTSA recall database. Anyone who suspects a fuel leak, particularly if accompanied by a noticeable gasoline odor, should avoid driving the vehicle until it has been inspected and should contact a Toyota dealership for guidance.

We think this is an unfortunate situation for an SUV that carries one of the most respected names in Toyota’s lineup, particularly considering the Land Cruiser’s longstanding reputation for dependability. The latest generation has already proven appealing with its combination of rugged capability, modern technology, and fuel-efficient hybrid performance, but safety-related issues like this deserve immediate attention. The good news is that Toyota has identified a repair and is taking steps to address the problem before more owners potentially experience trouble. For anyone driving a newer Land Cruiser, this is one recall worth checking sooner rather than later. A simple fuel-line inspection and additional clamp are certainly preferable to dealing with a potentially dangerous fuel leak down the road.
