2027 Chevy Corvette Stingray Brings 200-MPH Performance for Under $75,000

The Chevrolet Corvette has always been America’s performance bargain, but the 2027 Corvette Stingray just raised that argument to a new level. Chevy says the updated Stingray has a validated top speed of 200 mph, making it the most affordable new car currently capable of hitting the double-century mark. Even better, buyers can get there without crossing the $75,000 line, as the 2027 Stingray coupe starts at $73,495.

The key to the Stingray’s new top-speed bragging rights is its new naturally aspirated 6.7-liter LS6 V8. Output climbs to 535 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque, giving the base Corvette a meaningful jump over the previous 6.2-liter V8-powered model, which topped out at 194 mph. Chevrolet also claims the new Stingray can run from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and cover the quarter mile in 11.0 seconds at 124 mph, putting entry-level Corvette performance deep into serious supercar territory.

There is a catch, but it is the kind enthusiasts may appreciate. To reach 200 mph, buyers need to stick with the base 1LT Stingray and skip the Z51 Performance Package. That may sound backward, but the Z51 adds aero pieces like a front splitter and rear spoiler, along with chassis and braking upgrades that are better suited for track work than top-speed runs. Without that extra drag, the slimmer, cleaner Stingray can slip through the air more efficiently.

Chevy’s faster Corvette variants still sit above the Stingray for outright speed and power. The ZR1 and ZR1X can push far beyond 200 mph, with claimed top speeds up to 225 mph, but they also live in a much higher price bracket. That is what makes the updated Stingray so compelling. It is not the most extreme Corvette, but it may be the most shocking value in the lineup when viewed through the lens of raw speed per dollar.

Of course, the Corvette’s magic has never been only about top speed. The C8 Stingray remains a mid-engine sports car that can be driven every day, with usable cargo space, a comfortable cabin, and the kind of approachable performance that has helped make the Corvette such an enduring icon. With 200-mph capability now available from the entry point of the range, the 2027 Corvette Stingray is not just a bargain by Corvette standards. It is one of the most impressive performance deals in the world.
