Report: Former Red Sox pitching coach lands new job
A few months after being let go by the Red Sox, former pitching coach Dave Bush has reportedly landed on his feet.
According to Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News, Bush has been hired by the Texas Rangers as the organization’s new director of pitching strategy. Bush will serve under incumbent pitching coach Mike Maddux as the defending World Series champions look to build out their pitching infrastructure.
Before joining the Rangers, Bush spent six years coaching in the Red Sox organization, including the last four as pitching coach. The 44-year-old also pitched nine seasons in the big leagues, including stints with the Blue Jays, Brewers and Rangers, who he spent one season with in 2011.
Bush becomes the latest former Red Sox coach to join the Rangers staff, following associate manager Will Venable and hitting coach Tim Hyers. The Red Sox have since replaced Bush with new pitching coach Andrew Bailey, and the club is working to develop its own pitching infrastructure by adding director of pitching Justin Willard.
