Rudy Gobert’s nice gesture leads to big thank you

Rudy Gobert surprised Target Center ushers and arena workers with a holiday present again this season.

For the second straight year, the Timberwolves center gifted everyone who works at the arena with $50 inside a handwritten card.

The Target Center employees expressed their gratitude this week in the form of a massive-sized card — fit for a 7-footer — littered with personalized thank yous from many of the staff members. Gobert received the card Tuesday.

“It’s amazing. Really appreciate everything they do every day. You don’t want people to think they’ve been taken for granted. They’ve always been nice to me, my family, my teammates, everybody,” Gobert said. “So just wanted to show them a little love, a little appreciation. I know it always comes a long way, especially for Christmas. And all of these people have families and kids, so it always makes me happy to do.”

Kat’s coat drive

In what’s become a community staple event, Karl-Anthony Towns completed his annual coat drive Tuesday by dropping off the collected coats at the YouthLink in Minneapolis. YouthLink is a nonprofit that aids people between the ages of 16 to 24.

Towns dropped off the coats while visiting with local youth looking to make better lives for themselves.

“This is an honor to be here. It’s an honor to be doing this now for so many years and to affect so many lives,” Towns told media on scene. “First thing I realized when I came to Minnesota was, ‘Wow, it’s pretty cold,’ so I thought it’d be a great idea to support the youth, and people who need coats and people who need to stay warm in Minnesota throughout these winters.”

Towns’ drive collected coats from the public from late November to mid-December. He personally delivers the jackets each year.

“Every time, just seeing the impact it has,” Towns said. “To be able to be part of something where you get to physically see the impact it has on children and families, it means a lot.”

Pushing product

Shortly after Jordan McLaughlin’s lights-out performance in New York — the reserve guard tallied nine points, three assists, two steals and a rebound in 12 minutes upon being inserted into the lineup in the second half — McLaughlin and his wife both plugged the point guard’s apparel website on Twitter.

Always be selling.

Did his performance lead to a bump in sales?

“Yeah, a little bit,” McLaughlin said. “I’ve got to talk with my (apparel) guy, but we’re trying to push the brand as much as we can. It’s been good so far. We’ll get the shirts out soon.”
