Battenfeld: Maura Healey joins lame Biden campaign in New Hampshire even though he’s skipping primary
It’s not like there’s any problems in Massachusetts. Everything is great, right?
So why is Gov. Maura Healey wasting our taxpayer time promoting Joe Biden’s lame primary write-in campaign in New Hampshire?
The president is deliberately not on the ballot – making a conscious effort to not participate in this month’s New Hampshire primary, which Democrats relegated to later in the primary season to make way for South Carolina.
Biden engineered the whole thing for political reasons. It was a blowoff to an entire state as payback for him getting drubbed in New Hampshire four years ago, when he slunk out of the state like a wounded animal.
So now he’s not even in the race, despite efforts by Healey and the Biden campaign to make it seem like he is in it.
Even if Biden wins, which he no doubt will because the other Democrat is an obscure congressman, it’s just a blip in the primary season. It won’t matter. Yet Healey – a so-called “super surrogate” for Biden whatever that is – is now joining this phony Democratic Party charade to fool voters and scratch a win out in the leadoff primary.
It’s national showboating at its finest and an insult to Massachusetts taxpayers that the Democratic governor is willing to devote time and resources to engineering this Biden “comeback” in the Granite State.
Like when she was attorney general wasting our time filing 100 lawsuits against Donald Trump, Healey has now moved on to similar wasteful activities as governor. Many of them involve her going out of state, like traveling on junkets or to Democratic governor’s events. It’s all about raising her national profile and posturing on the national stage, like declaring a state of emergency over migrants and calling on the Biden administration to do more.
Healey has now committed to making phone calls and most likely traveling to New Hampshire, where she will no doubt annoy local residents by stopping by their houses to implore them to scribble in Biden’s name on the ballot. Granite Staters love when Bay Staters try to tell them how to vote.
Why does Biden need a write-in campaign when he’s already declared he’s not running in their primary? Good luck answering that question when you stop by voters’ houses.
Biden first insulted New Hampshire voters, now he wants their support?
Healey would do better concentrating on Massachusetts, like preventing thousands of residents from fleeing the state every year to more hospitable climes.
But that wouldn’t get her national attention, so don’t count on it.
Better to focus on Biden’s struggling campaign, then take credit when he gets his meaningless write-in victory.
