Boston Weather: Snow, freezing temperatures incoming ahead of warmer weather mid-week
Boston is in for a fairly wet week ahead and mixed temperatures, with snow and freezing rain coming in for the first few days, according to National Weather Service forecasts.
“In terms of like precipitation, we are expecting some chance for more snow showers (Monday) night,” NWS meteorologist Candice Hrencecin. … “And then we have a chance for some possibly freezing rain, mixed precipitation kind of deal for Tuesday night, associated with the warmer air coming in. But that still needs to be ironed out completely. That’ll be something to keep an eye on as well.”
Monday is expected to start out the week with freezing temperatures, as the high reaches into the upper 20s, NWS states. Forecasts show increasing clouds throughout the day, with a chance of snow kicking in mainly in the late afternoon to early evening.
A likely chance of snow continues through late Monday night, NWS forecasts, with patchy for rolling through late in the night. The low is expected to dip around the mid-20s.
The total snowfall is forecast to be “nothing crazy” in the Boston area, Hrencecin said, with the total accumulation between “maybe half an inch to an inch or so at most, maybe two inches.”
Across Massachusetts, western areas are expected to see snow earlier in the afternoon between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Monday and later around 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the east before tapering off before midnight, NWS states. Most locations will see between one and two inches, forecasts added, and snow effecting the evening commute, especially in the west.
On Tuesday, rain is expected to hit through the afternoon to night, forecasts show. The day is forecasted to be cloudy, with a warmer high in the upper 30s and low is the low 30s Tuesday night.
Rain is likely to continue Wednesday, mainly in the morning, forecasts state, as the high reaches the mid-40s and skies turn partly sunny.
“Then from there, we’ve got a drier Thursday on tap, which will be nice,” Hrencecin said. “And then another chance for rain again towards the end of the week, on Friday, and then probably may be lasting into Saturday.”
