Scam alert: Fraudulent text offers emergency SNAP relief
The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office posted on X to alert people to a scam text that claims to offer emergency Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, funds during the federal government shutdown.
The text message reads, “Food Debit Emergency Relief.”
The sheriff’s office said the message is a scam and urged people to be cautious if they receive texts related to the federal government shutdown.
According to the Trump administration, the debit-like EBT cards won’t be refilled and money for SNAP will run out by the end of this week.
Nearly 42 million Americans, including 440,000 Minnesotans, rely on SNAP to supplement their grocery purchases.
