Why Patriots added ‘very productive’ pass rusher through waivers
FOXBORO — The Patriots bolstered their pass rush depth Monday by claiming Caleb Murphy off waivers from the Chargers.
Murphy has familiarity with the Patriots’ head coach, originally signing with the Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2023 while Mike Vrabel was head coach.

That’s when Murphy, who played collegiately at Division-II Ferris State, was coming off a 25.5-sack season. That’s an NCAA single-season record.
“He was a very productive college player,” Vrabel said. “He’s improved his fourth-down ability and has experience there.”
Murphy filled the Patriots’ 53-man roster since they previously had an open spot. He joins Harold Landry III, K’Lavon Chaisson, Keion White, Anfernee Jennings and Elijah Ponder on the Patriots’ outside linebacker depth chart. The team also has Bradyn Swinson and Truman Jones on their practice squad.
