14-year-old arrested in connection with Beverly shooting

A 14-year-old boy was arraigned Tuesday on intent to murder charges related to a shooting in Beverly over the weekend, according to the Essex DA’s office.

The teen was charged in Salem Juvenile Court with armed assault with intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily harm in relation to a shooting on Simon Street on Saturday.

Around 7:17 p.m. on Saturday, Beverly police reported they responded to reports of gunshots in the area of Simon Street. An officer located a victim suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene and transported the person to an area hospital by medical helicopter, police said.

The incident remains under investigation by the Beverly Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the DA’s office, the release said Tuesday.

As the defendant is a minor, the DA’s office said no further information will be released.
