Saturday high school roundup: Tildsley brothers of Shawsheen, Chelmsford’s Thomas Brown make wrestling history

SATURDAY ROUNDUP

History was made at the prestigious George Bossi Lowell Holiday Wrestling Tournament over the weekend as the Tildsley brothers became the first set of siblings to win three titles apiece.

Sidney Tildsley captured the 138-pound title when he pinned Shea Morris of Haverhill in 1:50. One match later, James Tildsley defeated Nick Fatone of Norwalk, Conn. 10-4 to put the brother tandem in exclusive company.

Prior to Saturday, the only brothers to amass five titles were the Diamonds of Wellesley (Dean and Yanni), the Pedros of St. John’s Prep (Jimmy and Mike) and the Sheehans of Lowell (Pat and Brian). The Tildsleys also joined a group of 15 wrestlers to amass three individual championships. The Tildsleys were joined in the three-timer club by Thomas Brown of Chelmsford, who pinned Gabriel Thomas of Brookline at 1:44 to capture the heavyweight title.

As for team competition, Shawsheen (179) finished third behind Newtown, Conn. (215.5) and Haverhill (210.5). Local champions included Nick Desisto of Tewksbury (113), Peter Rincan of Billerica (120), Jonah Paulino of Monty Tech (132), Gabriel Stickney of Greater Lowell (150), Brent Nicolosi of Haverhill (165), Mason Pellegri of Milton (215).

BOYS HOCKEY

Jesse Peck scored twice as Xaverian (2-0) defeated Arlington Catholic 3-1 in a nonleague contest. … Anthony Lampasona had a goal and three assists, while Ben Paterson netted a pair as Franklin rallied to defeat defending Div. 1 state champion Pope Francis, 5-4.

Senior captain Derek Faia led the way with two goals and two assists as Swampscott (3-0-1) defeated Everett/Revere, 5-1. … Ned Akashian’s fourth goal of the game was the game-winner in overtime as Lowell edged Leominster, 6-5.

Aidan Fitzpatrick scored twice as St. Mary’s (4-1) defeated Winchester, 3-2. … Jacob Bateman scored twice as Silver Lake downed Dartmouth 3-1. …Liam Bonner had a goal and an assist as Duxbury (3-2) defeated Boston Latin, 3-2.

Jay Carter and Joe Grasso scored as Concord-Carlisle edged Acton-Boxboro 2-1 in the Dual County League.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Molly Hillier made 27 saves while Cate Sheehan and Junie McCabe each scored as Winchester doubled up Archbishop Williams 2-1 in nonleague play. … Paige Nottingham netted a hat trick as HPNA topped Newburyport 7-3.

In a DCL/MVC matchup, Olivia Egirous collected four tallies and two assists and Ang Caceda finished with a goal and six assists as Waltham (4-0) defeated Lexington, 8-3.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Vivian Schofield scored 15 points as Stoneham defeated North Reading 57-46 in a nonleague contest.

WRESTLING

Hugh McGourty (113), Johnny Morris (120), Ian Prebble (126), Cole Riordan (138) and Aidan Chan (157) went 3-0 on the day as Hingham swept Sharon (45-21), Franklin (39-26) and Norton (64-15).
