Patriots rule out veteran starting defender for Bills game
The Patriots ruled out outside linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson for Sunday night’s game against the Bills, the team announced.
Chaisson didn’t practice Wednesday or Friday this week due to a knee injury. He was limited in Thursday’s session.
The announcement indicates defensive tackle Milton Williams (ankle) and cornerback Carlton Davis III (illness) traveled to Buffalo. Williams didn’t participate in Thursday’s practice and was limited Friday. Davis was a full participant this week with an illness.

With Chaisson out, expect Keion White and Anfernee Jennings to take on bigger roles. It could also mean undrafted rookie Elijah Ponder dresses for the first time since Week 2. Williams, if healthy, can also move from defensive tackle to the edge, which could mean more snaps for Khyiris Tonga.
Chaisson has 2.5 sacks on the season, though he has had issues with penalties. He came to the Patriots as a free agent this offseason and passed White on the depth chart in training camp.
The Patriots can still elevate players off of the practice squad and activate linebacker Jahlani Tavai off of injured reserve by 4 p.m. ET.
