Red Sox call up top prospect Jhostynxon Garcia for Yankees series (Report)
NEW YORK – Red Sox top prospect Jhostynxon Garcia, also known as ‘The Password’ is en route to New York to join the big-league club at Yankee Stadium.
The Red Sox are placing Gold Glove right-fielder Wilyer Abreu on the injured list, the Herald confirmed.
Garcia, who goes by ‘The Password,’ was scratched from the Triple-A WooSox lineup early Thursday afternoon. Several reporters at the ballpark in Worcester, Ma. posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the outfielder was getting congratulated by teammates in the clubhouse as he packed his belongings in the clubhouse.
It’s the second promotion of the year for the 22-year-old outfielder, who’s also been working at first base of late. Garcia moved up Worcester after 33 games at Double-A Portland. In 66 WooSox games this season, he slashed .303/.367/.564 with 80 hits, 12 doubles, 17 home runs, 52 runs and 56 RBI.
Garcia currently ranks as the organization’s No. 3 prospect on MLB Pipeline and No. 5 on SoxProspects.com. At the end of July, he slotted in at No. 95 on Baseball America’s overall Top 100.
