Japan July 2025: Sales drop, Toyota Roomy true leader in regular cars charts

The Toyota Roomy sells over 10,000 units in Japan in July.

Now that year-on-year boosts due to year-ago production disruptions are over, the Japanese new vehicle market is in negative for the first time this year at -3.6% to 390,516. The year-to-date tally remains in strong positive territory for now at +8% to 2,532,665. Toyota (-3.8%) sports a strong 32.5% share vs. 30.9% so far this year, and is followed as usual by Suzuki (+1.3%). Honda (-12.3%) reclaims the third spot off Daihatsu (+4.3%) despite a stiff fall. Nissan (-18.9%) is in even poorer shape at #5. Mitsubishi (+11.2%), Mazda (+7.7%) and Isuzu (+2.6%) are solid. There are still no foreigners in the Top 10, with Mercedes (+6.5%) the best at #11 ahead of BMW (-9.1%) at #14, Volkswagen (+71.7%) at #15 and Audi (+43.5%) at #16. Peugeot (+94.5%) and Land Rover (+43.5%) shine below.

Over in the regular cars ranking, we have some new important info: the split between Yaris and Yaris Cross (52%/48%) and Corolla and Corolla Cross (56%/44%). These are for the Full Year 2024 result but still enable a better understanding of the charts. The monthly updates will still feature the combined volume. This month the Yaris/Cross (+19.7%) outsells the Toyota Corolla/Cross (-15.4%) but the true leader is the Toyota Roomy (+1.5%). The Toyota Sienta (-18.8%) and Alphard (-0.3%) complete a Top 5 100% Toyota. The Nissan Note (-13.1%) ranks at #6. The Toyota Raize (+150.5%), Voxy (+14.2%), Noah (+10.2%) and Aqua (+8.5%) impress. When separated, it is estimated that the Yaris would rank at a lowly #7, the Corolla at #9, the Yaris Cross at #11 and the Corolla Cross at #16.

Looking at kei cars, the Honda N-BOX (+1.3%) dominates again ahead of the Suzuki Spacia (+12.1%) overtaking the Daihatsu Move (+122.3%). The Daihatsu Tanto (-38.1%) suffers while the Suzuki Hustler (-3.8%) limits its fall. The Mitsubishi Delica Mini/eK (+16%) and Daihatsu Mira (+20.9%) are the only additional gainers in the remainder of the the Top 20.
