Boston area commuters warned of flash flooding on roads this morning
The National Weather Service is urging commuters to “turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads” as a flash-flood notice is in effect.
The NWS sent out an alert early this morning saying flash flooding from downpours are possible until 9 a.m.
This includes Boston, Brockton, Quincy, Newton, Brookline, Weymouth, Braintree, Natick, Randolph, Franklin, Needham, North Attleborough, Norwood, Milford, Milton, Stoughton, Attleboro, Dedham, Walpole and Mansfield.
The weather service added in its alert to be aware of “flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.”
The “NWS Alert” stresses:
“Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.”
“Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.”
“In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.”
If possible, wait this one out, but keep a close eye on the sides of the road.
This is a developing story …
