
New Zealand February 2025: BYD Shark 6 repeats at #10
The BYD Shark 6 repeats at #10 in New Zealand.
New vehicle sales in New Zealand drop -2.6% year-on-year in February to 9,409 units, meaning the year-to-date tally is now off -9.1% to 20,272. Passenger Cars (Cars + SUVs) are up 17.8% to 7,013 and 74.5% share vs. 61.6% a year ago whereas Commercial Vehicles (Light + Heavy) skid -35.4% to 2,396 and 25.5% share vs. 38.4% in February 2024. Year-to-date, PCs are up 7.1% to 15,075 and CVs down -36.9% to 5,197.
In the brands charts, Toyota (+13.8%) tightens its grip even further, advancing to 24.5% share. Mitsubishi (+2.9%) is also up (to 11.1% share) and climbs to #2 both this month and YTD. Ford (-39.2%) sinks and is relegated to third place with 9.5% share. Kia (+59.3%) and MG (+92.4%) surge ahead to round out the Top 5. This is MG’s best performance since December 2023 when it reached #3 and 8% share. BYD (+667.6%) shoots up year-on-year to maintain itself inside the Top 10 at #10 vs. #7 last month.
Like in neighbouring Australia, the Toyota RAV4 (+54%) dominates the models charts with 7.6% share, distancing the Toyota Hilux (-13.2%) at 6.4%. Leader for the past 10 consecutive years, the Ford Ranger (-45%) dives to #3 and is down -55.5% YTD. The Mitsubishi Outlander (+95.4%) and Kia Seltos (+129.8%) both post fantastic gains to close the Top 5. The Mitsubishi ASX (+40%), MG ZS (+35.4%) and Toyota Prado (#9) also impress. For its 2nd month of sales in the country, the BYD Shark 6 repeats at a brilliant 10th place and is the 4th best-selling pickup in the country.
