Red Sox make latest roster cut, optioning pitching prospect to minors
FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Red Sox have made their latest spring roster cut, optioning right-hander Hunter Dobbins to minor league camp.
Dobbins, a right-handed pitcher, was one of two Red Sox prospects added to the 40-man roster ahead of this past winter’s Rule 5 Draft. The 25-year-old was among those competing for a spot at the back of the Red Sox rotation, but he will now open the season in the Worcester Red Sox rotation.
Dobbins has been one of Boston’s most consistent minor league starting pitchers over the past two seasons. A former eighth-round pick out of Texas Tech in 2021, Dobbins posted a 3.08 ERA with 120 strikeouts in 125.2 innings split between Double-A and Triple-A last season. He performed particularly well following his promotion, posting a 2.61 ERA over four starts with the WooSox, and coming into this season Dobbins ranks as Boston’s No. 11 prospect according to Baseball America.
With Tuesday morning’s move, the Red Sox have 55 players remaining in big league camp, including 18 non-roster invitees.
