St. Paul City Council to hear appeal of FCC Environmental trash truck site on March 19
Residents opposed to a solid waste truck dispatch center and maintenance facility planned at 560 Randolph Ave., near West Seventh Street, are taking their concerns to the St. Paul City Council.
In January, the city zoning administrator determined that FCC Environmental’s planned trash truck center was largely similar to a Public Works yard and fit the site’s existing zoning. Members of the West Seventh/Fort Road Federation attempted to appeal the “determination of similar use” finding before the St. Paul Planning Commission, without success.
They’ve since taken their arguments to the city council, which is scheduled to hear their appeal on March 19.
Among their concerns, the site will host a compressed natural gas fueling facility for at least 30 trash trucks, and FCC Environmental has made no secret of its interest in expanding operations to other municipalities, meaning more trucks could follow. The company, based in Texas and Spain, is expected to service 90% of St. Paul’s residential routes later this year.
