St. Benedict erupts for 18 Runs vs. Lonsdale
The St. Benedict Saints have struggled offensively in the first third of the amateur season.
They needed a night like Friday evening heading into the meat of their schedule.
St. Benedict scored 18 runs on 15 hits in an 18-8 victory over Lonsdale.
Mitchell Martin went 4 for 5 with a home run and 6 RBIs.
Trey Kocher had three hits and reached base five times. Andrew Huss and Nick Heitkamp added two hits and three RBIs a piece.
Heitkamp also swiped two of the team’s stolen bases on the evening.
Cole Minnick worked two innings of relief for the win. Kocher got the nine-out save.
The Saints lost in heartbreaking fashion Wednesday blowing an 8-3 lead and succumbing to Faribault 10-8 in 10 innings.
Paul Hentges pitched a great game going six innings yielding just one earned run while striking out six.
The bullpen couldn’t hold the lead however as a couple hits combined with a pair of late errors springboarded the Lakers to the comeback victory.
Martin continued his torrid pace pounding out three hits and five RBIs. Zach Bakko launched a three-run homer for St. Benedict.
Elko defeated the Saints 8-2 on Sunday. Andrew Huss hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning to plate the lone St. Benedict runs. Jeremy Heitkamp had three hits, Zach Bakko had two including a double.
St. Benedict is off until Friday when they travel to Montgomery for an 8 p.m. start. Sunday the club returns home to take on Union Hill. Union Hill defeated the Saints 1-0 in f15 innings just over a week ago in their first matchup. The Saints have a makeup game on Monday in Veseli against Webster at 7:30 pm.
St. Benedict sports a 4-8 record. New Market leads the DRS Standings sitting with a 9-1 league record.
